Passo Nigra in autunno: trekking, colori e cucina tipica

Autumn is one of the most evocative times to experience the mountains: the woods are tinged with yellow and red, the air becomes crisp and the views of the Dolomites show themselves in their most authentic guise.

Among the places that offer unique emotions in this season is the Niger Hütte, un valico alpino che collega la zona di Tires con il Lago di Carezza, nel cuore del Trentino-Alto Adige.

🏔️ Where is the Nigra Pass?

The Passo Nigra (1.688 m) is located in a privileged position between two giants of the Dolomites:

  • On the one hand, the Catinaccio (Rosengarten), with its famous Vajolet Towers that turn pink at sunset thanks to the alpenglow.

  • On the other hand, the Latemar, with its jagged pinnacles reflected in the waters of Lake Carezza.

A breathtaking setting that makes this pass an ideal destination for those who love nature, trekking and hiking, away from the chaos but easily accessible.

🍂 Autumn at Passo Nigra: the season of colours

Between September and November, the larch and fir forests surrounding the pass are transformed into a living picture. The paths become golden carpets, the lower sunlight offers incredible contrasts, and the still mild climate allows you to experience the mountains calmly, without the summer crowds.

It's the perfect time to:

  • 🚶‍♂️ Hiking and trekking immersed in the woods

  • 📸 Nature photography with foliage colors

  • 🌲 Relaxation and nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the city

🚶 Autumn hikes to the Niger Pass

1. Walk to Lake Carezza

An easy and scenic path connects the Nigra Pass to the Carezza's Lake, famous for its emerald reflections and the myth of the nymph Ondina. In autumn, with the colorful woods, the spectacle is unforgettable.

2. Excursion to the Vajolet Towers

For the more trained, from the pass you can reach the area of the Catinaccio and climb to the iconic Torri del Vajolet, uno dei simboli delle Dolomiti. Le giornate autunnali limpide regalano panorami straordinari.

3. Latemar Ring

A longer route that goes around the massif of the Latemar, among woods, pastures and spectacular views of the surrounding Dolomites.

4. Snowshoes... beforehand?

In years when snow arrives as early as November, the Nigra Pass also becomes an ideal starting point for First snowshoe hikes, opening the winter season early.

🍴 A stop in a refuge

After a day of hiking, nothing is more beautiful than stopping in a refuge to savor the typical Trentino cuisine: dumplings, polenta, goulash and strudel.

The Nigra Hütte!, which this year has been newly managed and is also open in winter, is the ideal place for a tasty break with a view of the Dolomites.
